our history

Founded in 1933 and located in Andover Township, New Jersey, Lake Iliff has been known as Iliff's Pond, Clearwater Lake, and originally Hall's Pond.

James Iliff, W.M. Iliff and M.E. Titman were the three primary farmers surrounding the lake in 1860. The lake derived its name from James Iliff, who settled here around 1812 and farmed the area east of the lake.

The lake covers an area of approximately 37 acres, has an estimated maximum depth of 32 feet, and is at an elevation of 580 feet above mean sea level. The lake has a calculated volume of 533 acre-feet, according to the N.J. Department of Environmental Protection.

Lake Iliff is the second of four natural lakes that forms a part of a major tributary of the Pequest River.  Although Lake Iliff is a natural lake, a small dam was constructed to raise the natural water level several feet. The outflow stream feeds nearby Lake Aeroflex.

Only a small part of the lake shoreline has been developed. Sheridan's Lodge is located near the shoreline on Limecrest Road, and four homes have lakefront property in that same general area. The remainder of the shoreline was forested or has other natural vegetation.

Our hidden gem has been around for nearly a century.  We encourage you to come over, have a look, stay a while, and become part of our community.

We look forward to meeting you.
